Days 66-67 ~ Wide Open Spaces Tour 2012 Hearst Castle

Another Amazing Castle in California

We drove from the LA area up towards San Simeon, CA to tour the Hearst Castle. We could only reserve one night.  We could've spent the whole day at the Castle.

These were some of the views we enjoyed while driving up US-5

Some of these shots...

may appear to be just another mountain, but

when you crest over the top of a hill they look extraordinary

orange flowers on this mountain side

Another oil field

There must have been over 1,000 of these pumping oil

We were almost driving in the clouds

Snickers was unimpressed

We could only stay for one night, but it was a nice park

Snickers relaxed, taking in his new surroundings

Once at the Hearst Castle, Pam had to check out the Fire Engine

she was really impressed with the condition of its interior

As we were driving up the mountain we drove through the clouds

It was a little cloudy when we got there

We could barely see the ocean

The trellis wrapped the road all the way up the mountain

A few shots while we were waiting for our guide

The front of the main building

Fountains in the front patio overlooking the foggy ocean

Another view out the front door

A lot of detail around the front door

The front meeting room

Built in ceiling

The walls were all covered with tapestries

A lot of detail in the woodwork

There was marble statues throughout

Look at the detail on the fireplace mantle

At first look the ceiling looked painted

Upon closer inspection you could see it was all hand carved wood

Fancy chair

Now that's a Table

With high ceilings

With solid silver candle sticks

The table was made purposely narrow to encourage conversation

Every frame on the ceiling was hand carved and unique

This ceiling was being refurbished

Restoring the ceiling ~ it will take 5 million and a year

A secret passage way

So much detail

A cozy sitting area

The pool room

10' gold french doors

The theater room

Pretty elaborate light fixtures

More shots of the grounds

Some shots of the indoor pool located under the tennis courts

Our tour bus arrived and we made our way back down the mountain

The amazing huge outdoor pool we did not have time to see

Fruit trees line the property

Stable on the Hearst Property

We could finally see the water once we got down to street level

Clouds cover the mountains

Vineyards everywhere ~ grapes as far as you could see in this area

have never seen this many cow in one place

Snickers couldn't keep his head up

For a minute we thought we were in MI

Snickers getting used to his second RV park in one day
