Sites in New Orleans

Day 18 ~ Walking around the French Quarter and driving one block from our RV site

It was a beautiful sunny day and Dan couldn't relax.  He was on top of the RV checking on stuff and cleaning vents.

If you look close, you can see a bird on the end of antenna
Brittany was sad when I posted the last picture of Snickers, so here is one of him a bit happier:

We went into the French Quarter for a few hours before the Super Bowl game.  Below are some pictures we wanted to share.  The captures help explain.

Lunch at The Market Cafe on Decatur Street

The Cathedral-Basilica of St,. Louis King of France

We drove around near our RV park (one block away) and found out that we are so close to the Southern University of New Orleans Park Campus which was completely compromised as a result of the levee breaches caused by Hurricane Katrina and the storm surge later caused by Hurricane Rita. Flood waters grew to as high as 20 feet in the buildings.  The streets are a mess, sink holes, uneven.  Many houses still remain, boarded up and damaged beyond repair.  Crazy to see this six years later.

This last picture brings back fond memories of Pam's childhood RV trips:

What year was that trip to Canada Mom, Dad & Nannette?
Candice just sent me these pictures......now there's some memories!

New Orleans !!

Day 17 ~ Mandeville; Slidell and I-10 Twin Span Bridge  ~

We took a drive this morning to tour the heavy damage brought by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  Most of the damage has been repaired or removed.  The storm also destroyed an long interstate bridge (I-10); we drove on the new highway/bridge and could see the old bridge an the damages.

Bourbon Street....what can we say?!?
If you have been to it you know; if you have not.....some pictures.
We enjoyed some music on the street and in the Cafe Beignets where we had dinner.

This is from 2.4.2011; looking down Bourbon Street to the high raise buildings of downtown New Orleans

Quiet at the French Market on 2.4.2011; too cold . . .

On the road again ~ Houston to New Orleans

Day 15 - 17 ~ Still cold, icy ~ Dozer's 24th Birthday, wow time flys!!

We pulled out of Baytown around 9:30 a.m. and arrived in New Orleans around 3:30 p.m.  Not too much of a white nuckle ride even though the pictures below show ice.  We only stopped once for gas; Snickers would prefer more stops but this beautiful home has everything I need for long drives.  We are still chasing the sun and maybe by Saturday afternoon we will find it.

We will update tonight; maybe.  We were able to watch the Red Wings game last night (Dozer let us use his NHL Live online, thankx honey!) and tonight want to hang out in the RV lounge to watch the game tonight.

Pulled out Feb 3rd at 9:30 a.m.

Baton Rouge Louisiana Swamp

Driving from Baton Rouge to New Orleans was alittle dicey~icy

We will be here for a week   :-)

Why is the cold weather following us . . . ?

Day 13 & 14 ~ Kevin's Bday too!

Dan and I spent most of the past two days recovering from all the Texas hospitality!! We had such a great time while in Texas.  The few pictures below show sites around Baytown.  We also started our map to "pin-point" our travels.  We hope y'all are safe and warm wherever you call home; we are here in our temporary home.

The cold weather keeps following us . . . . why?

So what did that Groundhog say today ?

Fun at the Washateria

Really missed these great sandwiches !

Chemical Refinery....lots and lots of them

Another cool picture of the bridge we had to cross to get to and from campsite

We started and the top of map and move South & West; tomorrow we start moving North & East.

What a great time we had with The Burns Family

Day 12 ~ continued . . . .

We had such a great time with the entire Burns Family.  We got to see their brand new 4th store in Sugar Land Texas; dinner; dessert and a the grand tour of their beautiful home.  The kids were so much fun and so polite, even after the sugar kicked in.  Mark and Toni were such wonderful tour guides and we really appreciated them giving us so much of their time.
