Post 60 ~ Falling Up Tour ~ NH ~ Heads in the Clouds

Dan and I both had our heads in the clouds today !!!

We finally got out of the campground today; and the sunshine showed itself alittle bit in the late afternoon. We started the day exploring the area around "On Golden Pond" ~ Lake Squam and The Loon Center.  Had to check out the Moultonborough Falls General Store that has been opening since 1781 and got a wedge of cheese and a pickle from the pickle-barrel!

Then.........this amazing castle (see below)

"On golden pond..."

No this isn't due to the flooding, just a neat picture of a boathouse on Golden pond.

Squam River Covered Bridge Number 65

The Inn On Golden Pond ~ not the one in the movie.

An island so small only one cottage could fit on it.

A horse farm in the clouds.

This is really an active outhouse at the General Store.

A 230 year old General Store in Moultonborough, NH.

funny !

This is the Store in 1781 when it was a Stagecoach stop.

Hasn't changed much !!

Have you ever heard these things sing?
 - Now I know where they came up with the term Looney Tune.

These pictures to follow are the beginning of our trip to the CLOUDS !!!  We traveled up this amazing, one way, narrow, winding, bumpy driveway (in the Grand Prix, thank goodness).

There were rushing waters all along the mile long driveway.

Now that's what I call a rock in the road.

A little 50' (bridal veil) waterfall along the driveway.

This was the view half way up..

And the view at the top.

View from the patio of the carriage house.

The horse stalls were converted to dining areas.

The Castle in the Clouds built in 1914.

View from the back

View from the backyard overlooking Mt. Ossipee and Lake Winnipesaukee.
(Dan's head is REALLY in the clouds !)

Window above a fireplace? Strange-where did they vent it.

Hidden door to a hidden reading room.

Room with a view.
Wrap-around spray shower...in 1914.
Can you believe an intercom in 1914 . . .

Many windows had "Roundels" stained glass built into them.

The master bedroom, check out the floor and the space of the room and windows

The lady's Boudoir

This is the view from the Boudoir ~ what a beautiful place to have tea everyday.

  1. The castle is AWESOME! The little rooms and old furniture and weird interior designs. Was there a restaurant that had the horse stalls? Amazing view with all the changing trees.
