Days 21-23 ~ Wide Open Spaces Tour 2012 ~ Tucson, AZ

Jets, Helicopters, Rocks, Cactus, Snow . . . but no bears

We spent a good portion of our day visiting the PIMA Air & Space Museum

cute . . . bumble bee; the smallest plane ever to fly

Neat "pusher"

Used in James Bond movie: (smallest Jet Propelled)

Just a neat double propped helicopter with no practical use

Strange nose cones

Thunderbirds are always Blog-worthy

A painted up "Huey" used extensively in Vietnam

THE PLANE used in the movie TOP GUN (flown by the Thunderbirds)

the front view; impressive jet but not as impressive as the one Dozer is working on now! Watch YouTube video:

This was the simulator used in the Airplane Movies!

Looks like it has been used alot since the movie was made; it was pretty messed up inside

Homebuilt using a VW engine as the powerplant

This guy got caught on a ceiling fan and got in this museum  lol (didn't perform too well on shaky landings)

Lockheed's SR-71, set speed record of Mach 3.5 in 1964, and still holds record today.

Under belly photo of SR-71, with remote started.

Just strange looking.

Huge

Hard to believe it gets off the ground

Strange shapes

This was a huge WWII plane

A superfortress like the plane that dropped the atom bomb

The Boneyard ~ 20,000 acres and billions of dollars in retired aircraft from all lines of military service; incredible

All  mothballed and ready future use.

There were row after row of this jet

The white coating keeps the suns heat out of the planes

Lots of Turbine Engines removed from ??

F-14D

These are old versions of the planes Toby flies  . . .  i think, this one is being prepped for storage.

In storage

They store helicopters too

Plane after plane after plane...

These planes were in the outside museum.

Some strange paint jobs too

Some Presidential

This one was huge

This 6 engine plane was big and the propellers were backwards

And Kennedy's plane

You knew I'd fine an old car somewhere in this museum

One of the smallest helicopters I've seen

One of the largest

And one of the strangest

We saw these billboards all over Arizona !

He only needed one more year at U of M !  How's the book Dozer? Is it worth downloading on the Kindle?

Mt. Lemmon:
Beautiful homes at the entrance of the park

Amazing rock formations
We experienced major temperature changes as we drove up the Mt. road

Strange Rock formations

We drove under this rock...it was just hanging over the road!

What does this look like?  A face?  So COOL !

I don't know how some of these stones stay in place.

There is snow!

Bears!  We didn't see any....sorry Kevin; I will keep trying to find some more animals

Doesn't look to stable

Yep!  That is the road we were on

Puppy liked Mt. Lemmon

Glad they didn't fall

Pretty amazing when you're driving along side these...

Can't imagine the volume of water that comes down this valley

He really liked the ride
